I’m not racist but…..(daddy state compassion 101)

Taxi customers asking for white drivers, says Nat MP
Christchurch taxi companies are fielding calls from customers requesting white drivers, a National MP says.
Nicky Wagner says she has spoken to several taxi drivers and company owners since the brutal slaying of Afghan driver Abdulrahman Ikhtiari earlier this month. "Several said they had people call who only wanted white drivers," she said. "You can say it's a racist comment or say there's a perception by the public that ethnic drivers don't know the city as well so they end up driving longer to get to their destination."

Or you could go back to your first comment and decry it for the utter racism it actually is Nicky rather than try and justify that mindset as merely a perception? I’m not sure if the right response to the brutal slaying of a recent migrant taxi driver in Christchurch is to provide possible justifications as to why people dislike migrant taxi drivers.

Nearly 300 Palestinians murdered – what does it take before NZ speaks out?

Israel bombs university in Gaza
Israeli air force jets have bombed the Islamic University in the Gaza Strip, a significant cultural symbol for Hamas.
Warplanes also struck Hamas government offices as air raids aimed at forcing Palestinian militants to halt rocket fire into southern Israel continued. Palestinian medics say nearly 300 people have been killed in the air raids that began on Saturday.
Israel has threatened to launch a ground assault and is now calling up 6,500 army reservists.

Blowing up a University huh? That’s how you stop rocket attacks against illegal Israeli occupations on land that has been stolen in what is practically the planets largest open air prison currently suffering an economic strangulation because the occupied had the audacity to elect a party focused on resisting that occupation rather than be bribed by it? See I would’ve thought the way to stop occupied people from firing glorified skyrockets with the accuracy of a drunk cow would be by pulling out of the land Israel has stolen. Apparently not. The way to stop these glorified skyrockets from being fired by occupied people isn’t to give them their land back and address their righteous grievances, oh no apparently it’s bombing the most denesly populated region on earth and blowing up a University. During the farce of the Lebannon war we had many passionate debates on this site from people convinced Israel was right and were acting because two soldiers were kidnapped, of course when the truth emerged that Israel had secretly planned that invasion 6 months earlier and were simply looking for an excuse to launch, those same passionate defenders of Israel all quietly slipped away and stopped posting. Let’s see how long before they start going quiet on this issue as Israel’s rampage becomes more and more unjustifiable. The silence however in the mainstream media on this outrageous murder of nearly 300 Palestinians is disgusting and their mouthing of the ‘self defense’ mantra from Israel makes them party to a lie. For the record, let’s remind ourselves who is actually doing the majority of the dying and suffering before we start supporting Israel...

123 Israeli children have been killed by Palestinians and 1,050 Palestinian children have been killed by Israelis since September 29, 2000.

1,062 Israelis and at least 4,876 Palestinians have been killed since September 29, 2000.

8,341 Israelis and 33,034 Palestinians have been injured since September 29, 2000.

Israel has been targeted by at least 65 UN resolutions and the Palestinians have been targeted by none.

1 Israeli is being held prisoner by Palestinians, while 10,756 Palestinians are currently imprisoned by Israel.

0 Israeli homes have been demolished by Palestinians and 18,147 Palestinian homes have been demolished by Israel since 1967.

Israel currently has 223 Jewish-only settlements and ‘outposts’ built on confiscated Palestinian land. Palestinians do not have any settlements on Israeli land.

What does Israel have to do before our Government criticizes them?

Israel butchers 200 Palestinians in Gaza airstrikes

Massive Israeli air raids on Gaza
Israeli F-16 bombers have pounded key targets across the Gaza Strip, killing more than 200 people, local medics say.
Most of those killed were policemen in the Hamas militant movement, which controls Gaza, but women and children also died, the Gaza officials said. About 700 others were wounded, as missiles struck security compounds and militant bases, the officials added.

Ahh, the good old, ‘They are firing glorified sky rockets at illegal settlements which justifies our total over the top reaction from helicopter gunships” game, and doesn’t Israel play it well? Funny how America and Israel always howl about democracy yet when a party wins whom they don’t like it’s not democracy but a ‘terrorist’ organization. Perhaps Hamas wouldn’t have won so much support if Fatah hadn’t been so corrupt and the 4 decade long illegal occupation of Palestine hadn’t radicalized so many, but Hamas won the elections fair and square yet America and Israel are still trying to act like Hamas are not legitimate and justifies retaliation that has killed 200 in one of the worst attacks in decades.

Israeli politics are so defunct and embroiled in such deep corruption at present (perhaps when you perpetrate occupation you yourself start becoming corrupt?) and still trying to save face from the fiasco of their last war against Lebanon that they need a diversion and firing hell-fire missiles into one of the most densely populated places on earth for ‘self defense’ purposes will create that diversion.

With zero US leadership from the Bush Administration on reigning in Israel’s aggression and end the illegal occupation of Palestinian land, Israel has been allowed to exacerbate their own wound to the point where they can’t function beyond that of a shell shocked child in a refugee camp. Obama must go beyond the usual bullshit every President needs to mouth to keep the Zionist Lobby happy and force Israel to the peace table or no more US guns for them. The only reason Israel doesn’t seek peace is because America arms them with such an uneven amount of military force that they think they can keep running the occupied territories as the largest open aired prison on the planet. That mentality must be stopped and Israel must leave land they have stolen for occupation and only then can there be any real attempt at peace, it seems the Israeli’s are more concerned with enflaming the conflict beyond any possible Obama led change.

There is no military solution here.

Swiss ring watch found in 400-year-old Ming dynasty tomb

Archeologists in China are baffled after finding a tiny Swiss watch in a 400-year-old tomb.

The puzzling discovery was made as the archeologists were making a documentary with two journalists from Shangsi town.

‘When we tried to remove the soil wrapped around the coffin, suddenly a piece of rock dropped off and hit the ground with metallic sound, we picked up the object, and found it was a ring. After removing the covering soil and examining it further, we were shocked to see it was a watch.” said "Jiang Yan Yu" former curator of the Guangxi Museum.

The time was stopped at 10:06am, and on the back was engraved the word “Swiss”, reports the People’s Daily. Local experts say they are confused as they believe the tomb had been undisturbed since it was created during the Ming dynasty 400 years ago. They have suspended the dig and are waiting for experts to arrive from Beijing and help them unravel the mystery. - Ana

One main observation that gives more mystery to the story (if the story & photos are true) is, if you google ring watches you'll find that even today we barley have the tools to make ring watches this small and thin, especially if it has gears inside it? and this one is already belived to have been buried for over 100 years !?

The audacity of dope (yes we can)

Here’s an idea, with the economy about to be hit hard, with up to 180 000 unemployed, soaring prison populations, dropping tourism and self mutilating our ‘clean green’ image, I think it’s time we legalized marijuana.

Think about it, a café system similar to Amsterdam, you have to pay a license to grow it commercially and you would need a license to sell it in a cafe. Where it could be sold would be tightly controlled and whom could sell it would also be tightly monitored, not only would we create a massive cash crop over night, we would stop sending weed growers and smokers to prison, saving us money and space.

Drug tourism would suddenly prop up our tourism industry and seeing as Key looks half baked most of the time, he will be the perfect front man as Minister of Tourism.

Legalizing would also make our ‘clean, green’ image more believable and the revenue would boost desperately depleted government coffers. Money could be put aside for chronic users and host responsibility would apply to being too stoned as much as it does to being too drunk. Advertising restrictions akin to tobacco regulations and extra services for that percentage of the population who are predisposed to mental health issues would also be funded with the focus on harm minimization rather than throwing people in prison.

So we decriminalize a vast swath of the population, we save them from having to go to jail, we make it illegal to sell without a license and put huge fines in place to make growers comply within the legal framework and we boost tourism numbers in one fell move.

Can we do it?

A very NZ coup and the silence from the mainstream media is deafening

Parliament holds last debate of the year
Parliament adjourned today for the summer recess after the traditional debate which gave parties the last opportunity of 2008 to complain about each other.

Well the sorry, disgusting pack rape of the select committee process has finished. Law rammed through Parliament in an unprecedented manner since 1998, a hard right blitzkrieg of daddy state legislation culminates in an apathy that has seen a very NZ coup. The lie that the Government have a mandate in an election that wasn’t about policy but some undefined ‘change’, well NZers are starting to see that undefined change and it’s ugly, very ugly. Right to sack powers, scrapping our research and development and kiwisaver for tax cuts that favour the rich, fining parents $3000 for truant children, the dismantling of the biofuel industry, the throwing open of Coal fuelled environment destroying power stations and populist bail and parole laws lowering the risk threshold so that hanging judges can lock more and more people up for longer and longer resulting in our overcrowded prison system becoming even more dangerous and introducing Dick Cheney’s private prison system as the solution. And throughout this entire disgusting abuse of power not a word from the mainstream media, they are blind, deaf and dumb on this entire issue, deciding instead to focus on Politicians calling mistaking eachother with different names – ARE YOU KIDDING ME – I don’t want to hear about how they got eachothers roles wrong I want to focus on this pack rape of the select committee, the mainstream medias silence is deafening.

Global warming causing feedback loops right when Australia and NZ go into global warming denial

Changes 'amplify Arctic warming'
Scientists say they now have unambiguous evidence that the warming in the Arctic is accelerating.
Computer models have long predicted that decreasing sea ice should amplify temperature changes in the northern polar region. Julienne Stroeve, from the US National Snow and Ice Data Center, told a meeting of the American Geophysical Union that this process was under way. Arctic ice cover in summer has seen rapid retreat in recent years. The minimum extents reached in 2007 and 2008 were the smallest recorded in the satellite age. "The sea ice is entering a new state where the ice cover has become so thin that no matter what happens during the summer in terms of temperature or circulation patterns, you're still going to have very low ice conditions," she told the meeting. Theory predicts that as ice is lost in the Arctic, more of the ocean's surface will be exposed to solar radiation and will warm up. When the autumn comes and the Sun goes down on the Arctic, that warmth should be released back into the atmosphere, delaying the fall in air temperatures. Ultimately, this feedback process should result in Arctic temperatures rising faster than the global mean.

Right when Rudd destroys all hope that he was more than Greenwash with his pathetic 5% reduction, right when the nACTional coalition destroy local renewable biofuel, allow back thermal power generation and dismantle the ETS for a climate denial select committee, right as all these things are happening the Arctic is now melting so fast that the dreaded feedback loops are starting to rear their heads, this latest news that we are probing these new limits comes on the heels of research by Igor Semiletov, the Russian scientist with the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Pacific Oceanological Institute, that shows the permafrost on the undersea shelf off the northern Siberian coast is starting to melt releasing methane, there is an estimated 950 gigatons of carbon locked up there, while it is estimated that currently in the environment we have a total of 730 gigatons of carbon in the atmosphere – this extra release would be catastrophic for the planet, and while our leaders live in denial the realities and the consequences of those realities keep getting closer and closer.

Police-paid spy infiltrated office - Green Party

Police-paid spy infiltrated office - Green Party
The Green Party is furious that police-paid spy Rob Gilchrist infiltrated its offices and was used to report on the party's activities.
Green MP Keith Locke said there were rules about how police could act in Parliament's precincts and he would be writing to Prime Minister John Key, Police Minister Judith Collins and Police Commissioner Howard Broad with his concerns.
Mr Locke said that former MP Nandor Tanczos' secretary Rayna Fahey called the party after the story about Mr Gilchrist's activities broke. Rochelle Rees, the ex-partner of Mr Gilchrist, alleged at the weekend that he had been spying on peaceful protests groups for years. Ms Rees, an animal rights and Labour Party activist, discovered Mr Gilchrist had been paid by counter-terrorism police to spy on the protest groups when she helped him fix his computer. She discovered emails between him and police. Ms Fahey told the Green Party that Mr Gilchrist had befriended her and had been "keen" to visit the office and asked a lot of questions. This happened in 2005, some time around the election. "There are clear police protocols in Parliament between the Speaker and the police," Mr Locke said. "It is very disturbing that police would be conducting surveillance on a political party, including its MPs." Mr Locke said Mr Gilchrist had also been on a Green Party database getting access to information about policy and activities.

This story just keeps getting worse doesn’t it. How the hell could we have given cops all these powers when they are using them to infiltrate legitimate protest groups like Greenpeace and SAFE to find out activists sex lives – is that what they have extra Police powers for, to spy on the sex lives of activists, how the hell is that in the national security interest? And now their Police spy was involved in probing the Green party – a political party, cops have filthy spies inside a Political Party – this is despicable within a democracy and it makes Judith Collins assurances from Howard Broad seem very weak.

It’s a reminder to work in very small cell groups for all your actions against the state in 2009.

Mana enhancing and $3000 truancy fines

So we have one of the most bullied school populations in the world and we have just passed under a misuse of urgency unquestioned legislation that will see parents fined $3000 for truant children – and the Maori Party voted for this as part of their ‘mana enhancing’ relationship with NationalACT. How’s that mana enhancement feeling now? How reprehensible is it for a Government to ram through legislation that fines parents $3000 for skipping school when we have so many young people bullied, how about we make the school environments safer before we start fining parents, doesn’t it make sense that kids who are being beaten up and bullied at school are going to go truant and how offensive is it to have a fine system that starts at $300 but then jumps immediately to $3000? This fine system isn’t a solution it’s bullshit populist crap that is ill thought through and will actually make the situation worse, keep the kids safe at school and you will do more to decrease truancy than any nonsense fine system.

Mana enhancement huh?

When hate warps social policy

Call for urgent action on jails
Up to four more prisons will be needed in the next eight years and there are concerns public safety may be at risk unless more prison staff can be found, Corrections has told the Government.
The department's briefing to Corrections Minister Judith Collins says urgent solutions are needed. Community probation services are already understaffed and struggling, and the prison muster will balloon beyond capacity in the next 18 months.
National's tough-on-crime policies, such as harsher bail laws now being considered under urgency and no parole for repeat violent offenders, will make the situation even worse, the report says. "Government decisions are required within the next few months on strategies to address looming capacity deficits, in both the community and prison settings."
Probation staff are already struggling, with 200 more probation officers, 17 psychologists and 50 support staff needed to meet current demand. Without more staff, public safety could be affected, the report says.
In prisons, existing beds will be filled by mid-2010, and 2200 more beds - the equivalent of four new prisons - will be needed in the next eight years.

When the hate that someone like Simon Powers uses to paint prison out to be some sort of under floor heated, plasma TV adult 3 star hotel to whip up public disgust and scream for harsher and harder sentences, and when you ram through Parliament in an unprecedented misuse of power changes to parole and bail laws, you get a ballooning of our prison system. Instead of giving extra funding to prisons, National will propose to privatize the current prison system by importing Dick Cheney’s private prison industry as the solution. We know prison is a corroding experience that dehumanizes the prisoner and yet we all keep that surprised look on our faces when they often re-offend. National want to lock up more NZers into this corrosive environment and in fact make it worse by having corporations run prisons, their profit incentive has NOTHING to do with the limited rehabilitation services we currently run and in fact their profit incentive only focuses on MORE people in MORE prisons for LONGER. We are exacerbating the current social hemorrhage that passes as our prison system, but the intrinsic hatred that has been fed by National and ACT makes an reasonable debate on the issue near impossible. We will reap a bitter harvest from this poisoned crop.

How’s that change feeling folks, is it like Obama yet?

Go John Key!!!

Orson Welles

(1915-1985)

The One Man Band

"ORSON WELLES: THE ONE-MAN BAND is a fascinating glimpse at this extraordinary man's final years - made with the cooperation of Oja Kodar, Welles' longtime companion, to whom he bequeathed a wealth of unedited films and fragments when he died in 1985. Granted exclusive access to Welles' heretofore unseen archives - and drawing from almost two tons of film cans containing fragments, shorts, project ideas, and sketches - the filmmakers are led by Kodar through the rich but unfulfilled Welles legacy. Far from being the gloomy megalomaniac that Hollywood has sometimes branded him, Welles emerges here a protean creator, at times vulnerable and lonely, but always unshakeably optimistic and unfailingly innovative."

Using a giant electromagnet those crazy japanese can "read" your brain's visual cortex and project an image. Currently these images are basic black and white. The limiting factor is the technology, but the implications are endless. We already know which parts of the brain are responsible for emotions, memory, decision making.
Decoding the human genome was just the beginning. The Human Brain Mapping project undertakes to map the 100 billion neurons with 3 degrees of seperation between each.

Being able to paint a picture with your mind, project people's hallucinations. Kinda makes TV obsolete.

Am I hearing right?

So John Key has said that he will meet HH The Dalai Lama when he visits NZ in December next year. I'm pretty meh about anything JK does, but what I was more surprised about was that Steven Wong would make such thinly veiled threats against JK as "It is not a good move, and Mr Key will find it hard to find any Chinese here who will support his decision to meet the Dalai Lama." (Um, excuse me, I'm Chinese and I could not be more ecstatic that the DL, a revolutionary and a role model for all, is coming to our shores). To me, it defies belief that New Zealand Chinese people (if I am to believe our self-appointed spokesperson, Steven Wong), who have suffered so much discrimination over the years in Aotearoa, would in turn discriminate against Tibetans who, in international law, have a right to their own land (not that anyone in the world will acknowledge that).

I am also reminded of the hypocrisy visited upon Palestine. It appears so far that the Obama administration will do nothing when it comes into power to stop the apartheid-like conditions in the Gaza Strip inflicted by the Israelis, Americans and, by implicit consent through silence, the West and other Arab nations on the Palestinians, who have been reduced to living like animals in their own land (which, like Tibet, the world does not acknowledge). Obama should know that human and civil rights apply to Palestinians, not just African Americans. It's called racism against the weak by one who has himself been persecuted. I hope he proves me wrong...but so far, the signs are not looking good. It's difficult when you might have to be a bitch to the corporates who funded your campaign and you surround yourself with staunch pro-Israelites like Joe Biden and Rahm Emanuel. But perhaps it's all for appearance's sake to appease people who shouldn't really need to be appeased. I really hope he proves me wrong.
If not, as with Steven Wong's statements, the hypocrisy defies belief.

'A milli' remix by Uno the prophet

I've heard a thousand rad remixes over this beat, but this version by the Chicago MC is the only political rage-infested one I've come across... definitely one of the more memorable interpretations.

Ecopsychology aka humans go mental without nature

Yeah so it seems the thing that humans adore quarrying, colonising, killing and damaging the most is infact the key to stopping this ongoing mental decay of the western world. Duh. I wonder how many indigenous cultures are shaking their heads right now at this 'modern realisation'.
What is ecopsychology?
A slightly flawed adbusters article a few months ago touched on the subject. Although the mag promotes a certain political-apathy 'the world will be fine, just go bush and peace out' mentality in the story, at least the author acknowledges and sparks an American debate on the well-overdue subject ie. man is often healed by nature better than many other psychological therapies... and we should foster it for this reason alone...

Occupy, Resist, Produce!

"Almost entirely under the media radar, workers in Argentina have been responding to rampant unemployment and capital flight by taking over businesses that have gone bankrupt and reopening them under democratic worker management. It is an old idea reclaimed and retrofitted for a brutal new time. The principles are so simple, so elementally fair, that they seem more self-evident than radical when articulated by one of the workers: "We formed the co-operative with the criteria of equal wages and making basic decisions by assembly; we are against the separation of manual and intellectual work; we want a rotation of positions and, above all, the ability to recall our elected leaders." "

The Daddy State Agenda

Daddy State agenda about to be passed through Parliament by misusing the power of urgency.

*tax cuts

*changes to KiwiSaver

*bail and parole laws

* Increasing police powers to investigate gangs, and making gang membership an aggravating factor to be considered at sentencing.

* Allowing police to take DNA samples from everyone arrested for an offence for which they could be sentenced to jail.

Comments from some fans…

Bomber, do you have a list of the things they are going to ram through under urgency? It would be nice to see it so I can also descend into a pant wetting, blubbering heap like you have.

Is that all there is? Say it aint so mister, say it aint so. Surely there must be more to justify the trembling?

I'm expecting some real hard right policies given bomber's fearful ravings. If this is all we get then either he totally wrong as usual or just a fucking leftard girly boy who should just deal.

…some of our friends on the right are at great pains to spin these changes as moderate, yet the very manner in which they are being rammed through Parliament under a misuse of urgency not seen in NZ since 1998 suggests anything but moderate. Take aside the scrapping of the ETS in favour of a select committee that will resemble a global warming witch hunt well out of step with the rest of the modern world, put also to one side Hides horrific TABOR as a ratchet legislation noose strangling public spending regardless of service. Put aside the razor gang that will slice deep into welfare. Let’s just look at what they want to try and ram through over the next two weeks – with no debate, if nACTional have the answers, why not debate issues which have massive implications and which simply were not debated in the election? Why misuse urgency to ram it all through with no dissent heard?

*tax cuts
Surely with the global economic crises and the need to keep social infrastructure in tact to help deal with the stress of the economic crises, is now the right time to be looking at a new tax cut that favours the well off? The grand plan can’t simply be a couple of bucks more to spend on the ever degrading consumer credit card culture can it?

*changes to KiwiSaver
Lowering the level that Employers contribute is not a solution, while there needed to be something to help lower earners into the scheme, lowering employers contributions lower the total amount NZers can save, and ANY tampering with something that helps NZers save less is simply going in the exact opposite of where we know we need to go as a country.

*bail and parole laws
How can a major change in our bail and parole laws go through unchallenged? The ramifications of this policy will be a ballooning of the prison population in an already under-resourced public prison system, which will predictably lead the way for Dick Cheney’s private prison industry to gain it’s grip on this country. Private prisons don’t care about rehabilitation, they care about more prisoners in more prisons for longer. Their vested interest in profit warps the social value of rehabilitation utterly and that we are greenlighting this without thinking about the future ramifications bewilders me. Remember with this new private remand prison, these are people who have not been convicted and yet we are allowing a private company to detain them – the only power in a democratic state that should be able to hold you against your will is the state, not a company.

* Increasing police powers to investigate gangs, and making gang membership an aggravating factor to be considered at sentencing.
I did not agree with this while Labour were boasting it, and I sure as hell don’t like it now National and ACT are championing it. Why should the Police be able to break into your home and place spyware cameras and film you for up to 4 days without a Judicial warrant just on the suspicion that you are a gang? And seeing as the police get to suggest who a gang is or not these powers seem destined to be abused. You beat organized crime by targeting their financial structures, not by giving the Police more intrusive surveillance powers.

* Allowing police to take DNA samples from everyone arrested for an offence for which they could be sentenced to jail.
Note you don’t have to give DNA if you are CONVICTED of a crime, but merely being arrested for anything you can be jailed over. Why should we hand over our DNA on the mere suspicion of guilt and where the hell will our DNA be stored, is it safe, what happens if it’s stolen? If you are convicted of a crime you should hand over your DNA, but for merely being arrested? That is a massive erosion of your rights, you shouldn’t be forced to hand over your DNA simply because you were arrested.

These are not moderate policies and the manner in which this policy will be passed by the misuse of urgency isn’t moderate either. We are about to implement major change without one word of debate, National will ram through what they can and spend the next 3 years spinning the changes.

Does it feel like Obama’s change yet?

Heres a heart-warming story that was in the New Zealand Herald circa November 2008, for the last time NOT the 1700's. According to Garth George it's abortion, womens delusion that they are equal to men, multi-culturalism, the under-class and our forgetting that God created women last that is to blame for child abuse. Oh and for violence against women too.

And here I was blaming the abusers! Sometimes I was even crazy enough to be blaming oppressive ignorant mono-cultural wanna-be priest siths like George! So relieved they are writing for our main newspaper and shaping the mind-set of mainstream NZ society ysssssssssss!

Kanye West in Aotearoa...

taken from Kanye West's own blog: http://www.kanyeuniversecity.com/blog/
(1st December 2008)

"When I listened back to the New Zealand conference I was like whoa this is pretty harsh. Sometimes I speak with no filter. I did not mean to be so harsh on the subject of Christianity being that I was a well known Christian. When I was at my Mom's funeral a fucking stranger came up to me and said, "I hope you've accepted Jesus as your saviour so you can see your Mother again!" My entire life, being an african american, Christianity was forced down my throat. Since I was a child, I would ask questions like, "so are little babies that can't speak yet going to hell also?" I one thousand percent believe in God, I believe in Karma, I believe in being a good person. I'm not trying to tell people what they should believe or not believe. To each is his own. I was in situations where someone constantly used Jesus to show me how baaaad a person I was or how not perfect or not Christ like I was. When I say I don't want to be Christ like I'm saying I'm fine with not being perfect. I'm fine with being a human being. I'm happy with just that."
