Nats promise MMP referendum by 2011

Nats promise MMP referendum by 2011
A National-led government is promising to hold a referendum on MMP no later than 2011. But party leader John Key today said if voters decided to ditch MMP a second referendum would have to be held to decide which system should replace it.That meant any change was unlikely until the 2014 election or "possibly later".

Back in the bad old days of first past the post, NZ Parliament ended up being a place where 90% of those there were rich, white, straight males, now of course NZ isn’t made up 0f 90% rich, straight, white males (what an awful place if it was) but it did create an old boys network that informally ran NZ for the first hundred plus years, MMP forced those making decisions to have to hear and listen to other voices especially if they were in coalition with them. That National, the political party of the Farmers and Big Business want to move away from a political system that has forced them to have to work with others like women and Maaaaaoris and gays and transgender and Muslim and Asian etc etc etc is no surprise whatsoever because National have never really been about democracy, they are about keeping a system that benefits them personally and a proportional system of representation doesn’t help them because their policy is so extreme only ACT would ever partner up, better to change to a political system National can win then National moderate their policy. Changing the treasured gift of MMP to a system where the old boys run NZ again is an offence against Democracy that can not be allowed to occur.
